BEAUMONT, Texas — Lamar University announced that it's celebrating record-breaking enrollment numbers for the fall semester.
The school revealed a 10% increase over the previous year for new undergraduate and graduate students, according to their website.
Lamar University started out as a small junior college with an enrollment of 125 students. Now it is a four year university with over 17,500 students.
“Lamar University’s success is attributed to the ‘student first’ approach undertaken by Lamar University faculty and staff,” said LU President Dr. Jaime Taylor.
The university has expanded their degree options with new programs.
“Our Master of Science in Computational and Quantitative Methods with a focus on predictive analytics have been approved, and we are preparing to propose a new Doctor of Business Administration that could focus on energy management. We have received TSUS Board of Regents approval for a new Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering and are proceeding through final approvals for that new degree program," said LU Provost Dr. Dann Brown.
Lamar also achieved a 300% increase in STEM graduate student enrollment and a 118% increase in the College of Business over a five year period, according to their website.
“Over the course of our rich 100 year history, the education we provide is far more versatile, firmly grounded in the humanities and sciences, but with a continued emphasis on practical applications. The result provides a sharp advantage to our graduates as they develop skills for lifelong learning and prepare for the jobs they will have throughout their careers,” Dr. Brown said.
Lamar University is celebrating this achievement during it's centennial year.
