BEAUMONT, Texas — While most of Southeast Texan children are taking advantage of their holiday break and sleeping in, a 10-year-old Kountze boy competed in a 1K kids race on Thanksgiving morning and won.
Brayden Ketchum, 10, of Kountze, participated in the 33rd Annual Sea Rim Striders’ 2023 Turkey Trot Kids K Race in Downtown Beaumont and won first place.
The races were held at the Event Center located at 700 Crocket Street on Thursday, November 23, 2023.
The kids' run begun at 7:30 a.m. which takes place before the adult 5K and 10K races.
"We are here to run and walk the turkey off before we ingest it. Wherever you want to do it, we do it every year. It's a way for us to get money for our nonprofit," Brandy Hensley, president of sea rim striders and turkey trot race director said.
The winner of the 5K is Peter Gibson from Nederland. The 10K was one by Phillip Roxas.
Each year, the funds from the races go towards a non-profit. This year, Sea Rim Striders chose No Longer Limited Duty, a non-profit that help provide holistic healthcare services for veterans.
