JASPER, Texas —
Police in Jasper are warning residents about a potential scam targeting Jasper residents.
A Jasper resident reported to the mayor that a man and woman came to their door saying the City of Jasper is canceling power service and that they needed to pay to have their electricity switched over to a new company according to Lt. Joshua Hadnot of the Jasper Police Department.
The couple claimed the resident's power would be cut off if they did not pay up.
This is not true. The city is not canceling power service Hadnot told 12News.
The man and woman did not get any money from the resident and seemed more intent on gaining access to homes and may have had another crime in mind he said.
Anyone who is approached by the man and woman is asked to call the Jasper Police Department.
No arrests have been made at at this time according to Hadnot.
