KIRBYVILLE, Texas — A Jasper County Sheriff's Office Deputy collided with a car on Highway 96 in Kirbyville on Saturday night.
Around 6:45 p.m. the on-duty deputy was southbound on Highway 96 when a 2016 Chevrolet pickup made a left turn into the Sonic and hit the deputy's vehicle, according to Karli Cherry of the Jasper County Sheriff's Office.
The deputy has been identified as 28-year-old Officer Austin Guerrero of Nederland.
No injuries have been reported, but the deputy was taken to Jasper Memorial Hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the Chevrolet, identified as 64-year-old Burk Cooper of Kirbyville, was not injured.
The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the accident.

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers are investigating a crash on U.S. Highway 96 in Kirbyville, that occurred Saturday, January 6, 2024. The preliminary crash investigation indicates that at approximately 6:45 p.m., a 2019 Dodge Charger, a Jasper County Patrol vehicle, was traveling south. It is reported that a 2016 Chevrolet pickup was traveling north in the turn lane and was struck by the Dodge as it made a turn into a local business. The driver of the Dodge, identified as 28-year-old Officer Austin Guerrero of Nederland, was transported to Jasper Memorial Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Chevrolet, identified as 64-year-old Burk Cooper of Kirbyville, was not injured. This is an active investigation, and no further information is available at this time.
