BEAUMONT, Texas — As all eyes across Texas were turned to the Audrii Cunningham case this week, as the tragic update came in yesterday that her body had been found in the Trinity River.
When people are reported missing, it can be a painful reminder for the loved ones of people who have been missing for months, or even years.
Next month will mark one year since Kay-Alana Turner went missing. The 28-year-old was last seen in Tomball on March 10, 2023. Her family is still waiting for answers.
Rosa and Robert Calhoun, say their hearts hurt for the Cunningham family and that being parents with a missing child is a pain they don't want anyone to experience.
"We don't want them to wait till day 349, we want them to find them on day one," said Rosa.
After Audrii's body was found, messages of support poured in on social media from the families who know all too well the pain of having a child go missing.
"We posted it to that page, because there are a lot of people looking for Kay and they can be looking for other people. Our hearts were broken we were literally crying as we prayed for this little girl to be found," Rosa said.
Kay-Alana's family hasn't given up hope.
"It's just a frustrating thing to try and figure out and navigate. How do we get to that person who will hear our story and help us answer our question. And of course that question is 'where is Kay-Alana?'," said Robby.
Their home continues to show their support for their daughter and just gratefulness to the community of family with missing loved ones.
"People who have missing loved ones are the only ones who know what that's like, and once you are a part of it, your heart is just torn... the community just helps us keep going on and sharing her story," Rosa told 12News.
Today marks 349 days since Kay-Alana's disappearance. If you have any tips or knowledge to where she could be, you are encouraged to call law enforcement.
