Beaumont Police are trying to figure out the identity of a skull found in a field off Fannett road just a few days ago, now investigators are now using a dog to find the rest of the remains.
“The next step is for forensic analysis to be done and based on forensic results, they'll be able to match any information with missing person,” says Officer Haley Walters.
A cadaver dog was brought to the area in order to make it easier to locate the rest of the body.
Captain Chris Schuldt says that the dog alert strongly on a couple of different areas.
“We're looking closely to see what it's going to take to make sure we don't miss anything,” says Schuldt.
The skull was first found in the 4,700 block of South 23rd Street off of Fannett road, now it's been transferred to the University of North Texas for analysis.
“Forensic anthropologist will take a look at it to see if there's anything else we can find out from the skull like DNA, anything that’ll be helpful to our investigation,” says Schuldt.
The DNA results will then be compared with those on missing person’s lists, hopefully giving closure.
Although the investigation has moved one step forward, investigators are making sure no stone is unturned in their search for answers.
Schuldt says the investigation can take months or even years to complete.
