VIDOR, Texas — A Vidor city councilman has submitted his resignation, citing Imelda's flooding as the reason.

Bob Turner has decided to move his family to higher ground. Mayor Kimberly Stiebig said this was the second time councilman Turner's home has flooded.

He was appointed to the council in 2018, and ran unopposed in May.

Turner did not wish to speak to us at Thursday's city council meeting, but told our news partners at the Beaumont Enterprise that he looked into "raising his home but it's simply too expensive."

"We don't really want to leave, but we're not going to go through this again. It's been tough on all of us, so we decided we're going to call it quits," said Turner.

According to the Enterprise, Turner apparently plans to move his family to Silsbee.

"We just wish him the best of luck and of course we will stay in touch," said Stiebig.

Mayor Stiebig said since Imelda, the city has worked to make improvements.

Crews have already partnered with other agencies to help clean out ditches and culverts to improve drainage to help with handling flooding rains in the future.
