How everything unfolded throughout the week after Jasper officer-involved shooting that left Elvin Land dead

At about 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 4, 2024 the Jasper Police officers executed a no-knock warrant at Elvin Land's home in the 100 block of Parker Dr.

BEAUMONT, Texas — It's officially been one week since a Jasper man was fatally shot and an officer received minor injuries when police served a no-knock warrant.

We're looking back at how everything unfolded throughout the week of the shooting.

Here's what we know

At about 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 4, 2024 the Jasper Police officers served a no-knock warrant at Elvin Land's home in the 100 block of Parker Dr.

During the search officers broke down Land's bedroom door. Land then shot at officers, hitting one officer twice in his bulletproof vest. Police say the vest saved his life.

Officers immediately returned fire, killing Land.

Family and friends of Land have told told 12News they have many questions about the incident.

"At that time of the morning…the first thing you say, is 'please don’t do that', because it scares you, it alarms you. So I would just imagine that he was alarmed and feared for his life, I really do," said Fredrick Renfro, a friend of Land.

Later on the day of the shooting, the community held a town hall meeting at Nehemiah Church in Jasper where 12News spoke tp the family's lawyer at the time, Jonathan Goins.

That same evening the Jasper Police Department released body camera footage of the no-knock warrant.

The next day, Brian Keith Land was booked on drug and weapon charges.

Jasper Police said during the raid they discovered nearly half a pound of cocaine and a loaded shotgun, that belonged to Brian Land, in the home.

Land is a convicted felon who is not allowed to have weapons according to Police.

On June 6, 2024, Goins, the family's lawyer recused himself from the case.

Toward the end of the week, on Friday, June 7, 2024, a prayer service was held where the Jasper community, along with family and friends gathered to remember Land.

This is a developing story. We will update with more if and when we receive more confirmed information.
