NEDERLAND, Texas — Emmett Hollier has announced his intent to run for Mayor of Nederland.
Hollier announced his plans to run on Tuesday, July 2 during a news conference at Veterans Park.
"The time has come for me to continue to serve my community and the citizens of Nederland at a different level. I hope to do so as the next Mayor of Nederland. The city of Nederland has been so good to me, and my family and it is now time to give back," Hollier said, "As your Mayor, I will listen to hear and be willing and able to act in even the most difficult situations. I promise to serve with integrity and always respecting others."
Hollier said his focus will be to continue to move Nederland forward and in the right direction, according to a news release.
He says it's important to keep the lowest city tax rate possible while maintaining the best public safety, public works, economic development and quality of life for Nederland citizens.
Hollier grew up in Groves, and is a 1979 PNG High School graduate. He has lived in Nederland since 1993 and it's where he raised his family.
Current Nederland Mayor Don Albanese, 87, told 12News that he will not be running for reelection. He says he will not be running again because of his age. He wants to enjoy retirement with his wife.
Albanese will have been mayor for six years at the end of his term.
