Highway 12 in Newton County is closed due to debris

The highway is closed except for residents due to a log jam under bridge.

ORANGE COUNTY, Texas — The bridge over the Sabine River on Highway 12 in Newton County has been closed due to debris, according to the Texas Department of Transportation.

The highway is closed except for residents due to a log jam under bridge. Crews have been working on clearing it since this morning. 

They're projecting that the bridge will open again in the morning or late tonight, according to Constable Howie Wonders.

Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development maintains the bridge and is currently on the scene, according to TxDOT.
