BEAUMONT — Two high school students with the Mexican Heritage Society of Port Arthur showed off their dance routine that they performed for several Cinco De Mayo events.
Nallely Rizo is a senior at Memorial High School in Port Arthur and has been dancing with the group for the past 6 years.
“I plan to keep dancing after high school because its part of my heritage and I like to dance and show people what our culture is about,” said Rizo.
She said she plans on going to college after she graduates but does not know what she wants to study yet.
Her dance partner, Victor Olguin is a junior at West Brook high school and has been dancing for the past five years. He said after he graduates he plans on continuing to dance with Nallely while enrolling for the welding program with the Lamar Institute of Technology.
One of the dances they performed on Saturday is called the Sonora.
Rizo said the dance is very active because it has a lot of kicking during the routine.
Both of the dancers said their favorite part about performing is how the crowd reacts to their dancing.
At the beginning of the day, the dance group performed at HEB off Highway 365 in Port Arthur then traveled to HEB Plus off Dowlen Road.
Their last performance of the evening is at Tacos La Bamba off Calder avenue. The group will be performing at the restaurant until 10 p.m.
