SAN ANTONIO — Customers have been asking for it and H-E-B has taken notice. Starting on Monday, October 7, everybody's favorite grocery store will begin a phased rollout that will add digital tap-to-pay service to all its H-E-B stores.
This feature will allow customers to make purchases using digital tap-to-pay services such as Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, and Google Pay at its flagship stores.
The Texas-based grocery store plans to launch the feature region by region and the service will become available at groups of stores each day throughout the month of October.
Shoppers in the San Antonio area will be the first in Texas to be able to utilize this feature and H-E-B says it will take about a week to launch at every location in the region.
H-E-B will then continue to roll out the service to all other stores across Texas, as well as Mi Tienda stores in Houston.
This technology will allow you to pay with either your physical card or by using your digital wallet at cash registers, self-checkout lanes, and H-E-B brand restaurants and pharmacy locations.
H-E-B says that tap-to-pay services will not be available at H-E-B fuel pumps at first, but will be accepted at the fuel station payment window.
“We’re always exploring a broad range of technologies to enhance how customers shop and pay for products,” said Ashwin Nathan, vice president of marketing and payments for H-E-B. “This has been one of the most requested services we have received from our customers and partners, and we are excited to now make this popular technology available at all our H-E-B locations.”
Tap-to-pay services was added to Central Market and Joe V’s Smart Shop stores across the state earlier in the summer.
