Hardin-Jefferson ISD was chosen to design an Easter egg that will represent Texas and be displayed at the White House Easter Egg Roll, hosted by First Lady Melania Trump.
Three student designers were chosen to to complete the design over spring break.
This year’s 140th White House Easter Egg Roll will be hosted on April 2, 2018.

Hardin-Jefferson ISD was recently selected to produce a design representing the State of Texas that will be displayed at the annual White House Easter Egg Roll to take place on April 2, 2018. Each state was invited to select a school to decorate an egg representing their state using guidelines set out by the White House.
Three student designers and three faculty members took time over their spring break to complete the design. The student designers were Zoe Bjerke, Faith Herman, and Hannah Fontenot. The art teacher who coordinated and oversaw the development of the design was Kate Ducote. She was assisted by Erin Palculict and Matthew Fowler.
“It is truly an honor to have been selected to participate in the design this year,” explained Dr. Shannon Holmes, HJISD Superintendent. “Our faculty advisors and the students from our High School did an outstanding job with the design. I am proud that their work will represent HJISD and our community, and I feel it does a great job depicting emblems found in our great state.”
The White House Easter Egg Roll officially dates back to 1878 and the presidency of Rutherford B. Hayes, but first-hand accounts suggest that informal festivities began with egg-rolling parties under President Abraham Lincoln. This year’s 140th White House Easter Egg Roll will be hosted by First Lady Melania Trump on April 2, 2018.
