Hardin-Jefferson Independent School District superintendent Shannon Holmes has resigned after 13-years as superintendent.

Holmes has been with district for 20 years and started as a business manager.

He has accepted a position at Association of Texas Professional Educators as the executive director and will start this fall.

Dr. Shannon Holmes has accepted a leadership position at the Association of Texas Professional Educators (ATPE) and will be leaving the HJISD this fall.

“HJISD is a great place to learn and work. It is filled with outstanding educators, many of whom I have built strong relationships with over the past 20 years”, Holmes explained. “I want to thank the HJISD school board, faculty, staff, students, and community. It truly has been an honor and privilege to work with you, and I know HJISD will continue to grow and improve in the years to come. I wish you all the best.”

Dr. Holmes has served as the HJISD superintendent for the past 13 years. During a time of unprecedented growth, major facility construction, and multiple natural disasters, he has lead the District to become known for top-rate academics and the best teaching staff in the region.

Board President Michelle Yentzen released the following statement, “We, as the Board of Trustees for HJISD, are extremely grateful for the opportunity to have worked with Dr. Holmes as our Superintendent for the last 13 years. Dr. Holmes has guided HJISD to continually seek new challenges, which has allowed us to provide excellent education for our students, a great work environment for our faculty and staff, and trust in and from our community. He will be greatly missed but his many accomplishments are the cornerstone of the success of Hardin-Jefferson schools and will continue to allow us to grow to even greater levels. We truly wish him the best in his new endeavors and look forward to carrying on his legacy as we begin a new era.”

The HJISD School Board will begin the the process to find a new superintendent immediately, keeping high standards for leadership and academics at the forefront of their search.
