HARDIN COUNTY, Texas — Hardin County ESD 2 Board of Commissioners have voted against renewing the contract of Lumberton Fire and EMS Fire Chief Jeff McNeel.

During their regular October 3 meeting, board members decided to not renew the fire chief's contract based on a 3-2 vote.

Fire Chief McNeel's contract was listed on the meeting's agenda.

"The fire chief’s contract was up for renewal and the contract was not renewed based on a 3 to 2 vote," said President of Hardin County Emergency Services District 2 Jim Philp.

Hardin County ESD 2 board plans to hold a special called meeting on October 7 at 6 p.m. to discuss the appointment of an interim chief and to discuss the process of searing for a new fire chief.

This is a developing story. We will update with more if and when we receive more confirmed information.
