GROVES, Texas — An issue that has been discussed by Groves city leaders for months now has a solution following the passing of new city ordinances.
Groves City Council members met Monday to discuss issues including food trucks, the search for a new city manager, and the hot topic of game rooms within city limits.
“We aren't trying to deter anybody from operating their business or existing, we are just trying to operate with the city and include the community,” Groves Interim City Manager Lance Billeaud said.
A solution on the agenda, regarding the game rooms, that passed limits where the 8-liners can operate.
“I really don't think it will have too much of an impact because they have those limitations on this type of business,” Billeaud said.
Another newly passed ordinance makes "specific use permits" a requirement. This means the public would have more of a say on the type of businesses that are in their area, within a 200-foot radius of residents' homes.
“They don't want them right on top of a residential area,” Billeaud said. “They don't want them too close to schools or close to the churches either. They are kind of wanting a buffer zone of some sort in that area.”
The ordinances regarding game rooms and food trucks passed Monday and are currently in effect.
