Unwelcome gator removed from front porch of Beaumont home

The young gator was about three to four feet long and had a large fish hook in its mouth.

BEAUMONT, Texas — In what some might look at as a reptilian re-match Beaumont Animal Care came out on top this week.

An animal control officer from BAC was sent to a home not far from the Port of Beaumont, Monday morning, June 17, 2024, following a frantic call from a resident who was surprised by an alligator at their front door, according to a Facebook post by Beaumont Animal Care.

When officer Brooklin Moore arrived at the Beaumont home they found a fairly young gator that was about three to four feet long making herself welcome on the mat at the front door.

Officer Moore was able to snare the young gator and noticed that she had a large treble fishing hook embedded in the bottom of her mouth, according to the post.

The gator did not seem to be thrilled to leave as she hissed at Moore almost the entire time.

Beaumont Animal Care's veterinarian, Dr. Danny Hurych, of Dowlen Road Vet Center, was able to easily remove the hook from her mouth. There didn't appear to be any permanent damage.

After posing for photos with the catch, Officer Moore gave the reptile a kiss and released her into a Beaumont area bayou.

Hopefully now she will stay off porches where she's not welcome and avoid fisherman's hooks.

In last week's gator round up on Wednesday afternoon, animal control officers and Beaumont firefighters were unable to coax a small gator out of a culvert in a drainage ditch in a Beaumont neighborhood.

With this morning's catch, the summer 2024 score is now tied with Gators: 1, BAC: 1.

This is a developing story. We will update with more if and when we receive more confirmed information.
