Services set for Warren dad, Spurger dad & daughter, fundraisers set up for both families following fatal motorcycle wreck with suspected DWI driver

The two men were riding motorcycles with their children as passengers Friday evening near Silsbee when they were struck by a car driven by a suspected DWI driver.

BEAUMONT, Texas — Two Tyler County fathers lost their lives along with one’s 12-year-old daughter last week in a suspected DWI wreck that also injured the 7-year-old son of the other man.

James Means, 39, of Spurger, his daughter Cicillia Means, 12, and Allen Wesenberg, 37, of Warren, died and Wesenberg’s son, Aiden, 7, was seriously injured when they were struck by a suspected intoxicated driver on Friday, February 2, 2024.

Aiden was taken to Texas Children’s Hospital where he underwent surgery according to a GoFundMe set up to help the Wesenberg family.

The 7-year-old was able to come home Monday night according to a Facebook post by his mother.

A visitation for Means and his daughter will be held on Thursday, Feb. 8, 2024, from 5 – 8 p.m. at Riley Funeral Home in Woodville.

Funeral services for the father and daughter will be held on Friday, Feb. 9, 2024, at noon at the Spurger ISD gym. Their burial will follow at Turner Branch Cemetery in Spurger.

Visitation and funeral services for Allen Wesenberg are set for Saturday, Feb. 10, 2024 at Riley Funeral Home in Woodville. Visitation is from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and the services begin at 3 p.m. with burial to follow at Village Mills Cemetery.

The Spurger school district released a statement lamenting the loss of Cicillia Means, who was a student a Spurger Junior High School.

"We invite you to stand with us in keeping Cici, her family, and the entire Spurger ISD community in your thoughts and prayers," according to the statement.

The district also said it would be making counselors and youth pastors from the community available to students that need them.

Means and Wesenberg were riding motorcycles with their children as passengers Friday when they were struck by a car driven by Brenon Proulx, 50, of Silsbee, according to troopers.

Proulx was arrested on intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault charges according to a news release from the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Troopers say he was driving west on FM 327 about a mile from the Silsbee city limits when he drove into the eastbound lanes and struck 2005 and a 2015 Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by Means and Wesenberg, who were headed east.

Means died at the scene while Wesenberg and his daughter died later at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.

Proulx is currently in the Hardin County Jail and has a $160,000 bond.

Troopers are continuing to investigate the wreck.
