Fisherman rescued from tree after being chased by a gator

Chambers County Deputies responded to a call around 10:00 p.m. Tuesday to rescue a fisherman from a tree on Bird Rookery Lake.

CHAMBERS COUNTY, Texas — A fisherman was rescued from a tree in Chambers County after he says he was chased by an alligator.

Chambers County Deputies responded to a call around 10:00 p.m. Tuesday to rescue a fisherman from a tree on Bird Rookery Lake.

The person claims to have been chased up the tree by a gator while fishing. A friend called for help once he got to safety, he said.

The Chambers County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) Marine Division found the person up a tree on the US Corp of Engineers Property, on the southeast corner of the Trinity River.

The rescue was a success and nobody was injured.

Sheriff Brian Hawthorne is reminding Chambers County citizens and visitors that the wildlife will be out as the weather warms.

Alligators, snakes and other potentially dangerous animals also live in Chambers County.

CCSO says to be aware, use common sense and be respectful of the wildlife. You can call them at 409-267-2500 with a question, concern, or 9-1-1 in the case of an emergency.
