WESTLAKE, La. — A fire at a Southwest Louisiana chlorine plant triggered a brief shutdown of Interstate 10 in Westlake Tuesday morning.

For nearly an hour all east and westbound Interstate 10 traffic was routed to Interstate 210 due to a warehouse fire at the Bio-Lab facility along the south side of Interstate 10 in Westlake, La.

KPLC is reporting that a cautionary shelter in place order has been lifted and that the interstate has reopened as of 11:30 a.m.

The cause of the fire, which has been extinguished, is being investigated.

The facility, which makes pool and spa chemicals, is a little over a mile west of the Calcasieu River Bridge.

Earlier Tuesday morning a large plume of white smoke could be seen billowing from the facility.

Currently no injuries have been reported as a result of the fire according to KPLC.

Back in August 2020 the facility had a fire that resulted in the release of chlorine gas, according to the U.S. Chemical Safety Board.

No one was injured in the 2020 fire.

This is a developing story. We will update with more if and when we receive more confirmed information.
