FBI investigating death of federal prison inmate found unresponsive at FCI Beaumont

BEAUMONT, Texas — The FBI is investigating the death of a 48-year-old federal prison inmate who was found unresponsive Friday morning. 

Dorrelle Walker was found unresponsive at the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Beaumont Medium around 7:40 a.m. 

Responding employees initiated life-saving measures and EMS was requested while life-saving efforts continued. Walker was pronounced dead by medial personnel shortly after.

According to a news release, no additional employees or other inmates were injured and at no time was the public in danger. 

Walker was sentenced in the Eastern District of Arkansas to a 77-month term for being a felon in possession of a firearm. 

He had been in custody at FCI Beaumont Medium since July 11, 2024.
