Family fly-in at Beaumont Municipal Airport kicks off Saturday

This free event will include air rescue helicopters, air patrol, personal planes, and radio-controlled airplanes.

BEAUMONT, Texas — A Beaumont airport will host a day of aviation exploration and family fun this Saturday. 

Beaumont Municipal Airport annual family fly-in event will take place this weekend starting at 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. 

There will be will be a chance to explore air rescue helicopters, air patrol, personal planes and radio-controlled airplanes.

"That's the beauty of the the fly in, its open. So you never know what's gonna show up," said Airport Manager Chris Meaux.

Meaux has been in the aviation industry for over 38 years and now he wants to share his passion for the career with Beaumont families during the event.

"They can walk around throughout the airport, talk to the pilots, all the pilots looking at them, they'll show them the insides, let him sit in them," he said.

The event is an open invite for pilots in surrounding areas, which means a few pieces of history could show up.

"A few World War II aircraft that usually show up in there. Most people don't get to be able to view those very close. You can get right up to them, the pilots will welcome you and let you see the cockpits," Meaux said.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to engage with pilots, police officers, firefighters and medical technicians. 

Here's a list of additional activities: 

  • Local pet adoptions
  • Axe throwing
  • Food trucks

"We're gonna have Rudy's Kabobs serving kabobs we have Taco Logo, we have shaved ice Italian ice and you can make it a fun time for the entire family," said City of Beaumont Senior Manager of Public Relations Tracy Kennick.

Kennick tells 12News it's not just a family fun event but that is also serves as an educational experience.

"There's a lot of kiddos out there that maybe want to be pilots one day or they just want to see what it's like to go up in an airplane maybe for the first time," she said.

This event is free and open to all. 

"Experience all the different possibilities and careers and have fun at the same time," Meaux said.
