BEAUMONT, Texas — ExxonMobil made a donation to the Jefferson County Long Term Recovery Group in honor of a former Precinct One Commissioner.
Vernon Pierce died in April at the age of 69-years-old after a battle with cancer.
The recovery group recieved $25,000 from ExxonMobil and was presented with a check at the Young Men's Business League (YMBL) office on Wednesday.
The recovery group helps Jefferson County residents after storms.
Pierce's wife of 45 years, Sheree, tells 12News that disaster recovery was her husband's passion.
"For other people to recognize was his passion was and to honor his passion, and to honor him. I'm honored and I am just touched like you would not believe," she said.
Sheree tells 12News commissioner pierce worked for Entergy for 43 years, helping people get their lights back on.
He also served as executive director of the recovery group before becoming commissioner.
