PORT ARTHUR, Texas — According to a release on the Port Arthur city website, long-time Executive Director of the Economic Development Corporation, Floyd Batiste sadly died Saturday.
Batiste reportedly passed after a battle with cancer according to a post on Facebook from the Greater Port Arthur Chamber of Commerce.
Batiste spent nearly two decades serving the city as the Chief Executive Office for the PAEDC, as well as making a bid for Port Arthur Mayor back in 2022.
According to the press release, Batiste was instrumental in the rehabilitation of the former First National Bank Building which today serves as the headquarters for both the PAEDC and the Greater Port Arthur Chamber of Commerce, the transformation of the former home of the Port Arthur News, and the establishment of PAEDC's Spur 93 Industrial Park.
Batiste was also instrumental in Port Arthur's mission to revitalize downtown according to a post by the Greater Port Arthur Chamber of Commerce.
"We extend our deepest condolences to Mr. Batiste's family, friends, and loved ones during this time," said the press release. "Throughout his time at the PAEDC, Mr. Batiste demonstrated a commitment to the citizens of Port Arthur, and his vision helped pave the way for future success. A disease may have robbed Mr. Batiste of his life, but it can never take his legacy."
Batiste is remembered by his friends and peers for his decades of service to make Port Arthur a better place for all.
