BEAUMONT, Texas — Frustrations continue over package delays with the United States Postal Service and Southeast Texans are dealing with a backlog due to trouble at two distribution centers in Houston.
USPS says the mail is late because of network updates.
A Mauriceville landlord and a Lumberton home-based business owner both say they still haven't gotten packages they ordered in December.
The issue is so widespread that Congressman Al Green held a press conference to address the ongoing problem.
"I don't think written communication are enough. I think the postal service has a duty, a responsibility and an obligation to come before the press,” said Green.
Green encouraged USPS management to have customer service representatives onsite at Houston distribution centers to help customers.
"And you cannot in any way know what's in a package, therefore because you don't know what's in it you have to assume that every package is important,” Green said.
David Wagstaff of Mauriceville owns rental homes and he's been trying to evict squatters for over six months.
"Yes I sent out a certified eviction notice to the people living in one of my homes. And it's just frustrating that this letter hasn't gotten to them yet,” said Wagstaff.
The eviction notice he sent on January 2 was lost and the tenants still have not been served.
"It's been stuck at one spot since January 9 with no updates. I contacted UPS on the app, and asked to get any update on it and I have not received anything on that yet,” Wagstaff told 12News.
Nicole Thames is the owner of a t-shirt business called The Purple Freckle Designs. She says she’s still waiting on patches that were ordered on New Year’s Eve.
"Valentine's items that I need kind of quickly. To be able to get out quickly, so people can have them. You know it kind of puts, you know I say a stressor on my end, but you know my little shirt business is nothing compared to somebody's medicine that they're waiting on,” said Thames.
They're not the only ones with mail troubles. On the 12News Facebook page many of viewers commented with similar stories.
"I've got 3 stuck in Houston. That were mailed out 10 days ago,” one comment said.
USPS says they are doing their best to make sure people get their packages.
"We are taking steps to ensure packages are processed as quickly and efficiently as possible,” USPS said in a statement.
