Evadale Independent School District now a closed campus in interest of safety, security

There will also be no public access to the track or school facilities during school hours.

EVADALE, Texas — "In the interest of safety and security," district officials have announced that the Evadale Independent School District will now be a closed campus.

The Evadale ISD Board decided to "close" campus during school hours, the district announced in a Monday Facebook post. Officials made the change to increase the safety and security of students and staff and reduce public access to students.

Those wanting to visit the campus during school hours have to report to either the high school or elementary/junior high office with identification. No one will be allowed on campus without identification.

There will also be no public access to the track or school facilities during school hours. Parents will still have access to their students through the front offices as normal.

The ability to have Friday lunches with elementary students will also continue as normal.

The track, school facilities, and parent pick-up lines will be closed from 8:15 a.m. until 3:15 p.m. each day. The elementary/ junior high car pick-up line begins at 3:15, and those picking up students are asked to not line up before that time.

All the changes reflect the districts efforts to be proactive in ensuring that they are in compliance with the 2023-2025 TEA School Safety Standards.

Officials told 12News there was no incident that prompted the change, "rather Evadale ISD is making the change in preparation for the addition of fencing with controlled access."

"As with all schools, it is our duty to protect the students and staff within our facilities, and these few changes will assist administration in these efforts," district officials said in a release.

Those with any questions or concerns can call the office.
