PORT ARTHUR, Texas — Forty high school graduates were awarded scholarships from Motiva and were honored at the Port Arthur Refinery on Tuesday.
Each 2019 graduate was awarded a $2500 scholarship to use toward their higher education journey each year.
Twenty Southeast Texas seniors, along with 20 college-bound children of Motiva employees are awarded the scholarships each year.
The program is in its sixteenth year and has awarded more than $2.25 million in scholarships.
“The partnership between Motiva and Port Arthur and surrounding communities is one we are strongly committed to and proud to be a part of, and I can’t think of a better way to support the future of our community and our industry than through the education of our children,” said Gregory Lucchesi, vice president and general manager of the Port Arthur Refinery in a Motiva news release.

(June 20, 2019) – On June 18, Motiva Enterprises awarded 40 2019 high school graduates with a $2,500 per annum scholarship to aid their higher education pursuits. Motiva’s scholarship program, now in its 16th year, awards scholarships to 20 college-bound children of Motiva employees and 20 high school seniors who live in the southeast region of Texas. To date, Motiva has awarded more than $2.25 million in scholarships.

To be eligible for the program, students must be accepted to a four-year or two-year degree program at an accredited college or university. Recipients are selected based on academic achievements, extracurricular activities, community service and teacher recommendations.

Motiva honored the students and their parents at a private scholarship reception held at Motiva’s Port Arthur Refinery on June 18.
“As a parent, I understand first-hand the pride you have for your children as they achieve life milestones and receive recognition; it was a privilege to celebrate these exceptional students for their hard work and dedication to not only their education but to their future,” said Ed Haloulos, executive vice president of human resources for Motiva. “We wish them every success as they start the next chapter of their journey.
