Elderly couple loses everything in Port Acres house fire

The couple didn't have insurance, which forces them to find another home after 30 years.

PORT ARTHUR, Texas — An elderly couple lost everything in a Port Acres house fire last night.

It happened on the 3000 block of 63rd street. The couple built the home themselves and stayed there for over 30 years.

"The fire came so quick," said Victor Frost.

62-year-old Frost was thankful to be alive after his three-story home burned to the ground.

The Port Arthur Fire Department still doesn't know the cause. However, Frost believes his wife's electric blanket malfunctioned and caused the blaze.

Frost said he did all he could to stop the fire from spreading.

"I got a fire extinguisher, but I couldn't get it open," said Frost.

Elissa, Frost's granddaughter, is helping the couple find another place to call home.

She said the fire almost took all of their memories with it.

"It's a shock, it's a big loss, but we are grateful that they got out," said Elissa.

The fire is still under investigation. Frost and his wife are staying with family members until the two can find a place to stay.

"Family is here and couldn't ask for better help," said Frost.

Frost said the home has no insurance, and they need help at this devastating time. You can go on their GoFundMe page to donate.
