BEAUMONT, Texas — A wreck involving an 18-wheeler and then another involving several other vehicles just west of Beaumont along Interstate 10 Thursday morning affected traffic and sent one person to the hospital.
A Freightliner truck tractor and semi-trailer driven by a 64-year-old Florida man was headed west along Interstate 10 at about 2:10 a.m. when it struck the concrete barrier according to a news release from the Texas Department of Public Safety. The truck and trailer ended up in the center median with the trailer partially blocking the eastbound lanes.
The truck diver and a passenger were not injured according to the news release.
Shortly after the truck wreck, as traffic began to back up in the eastbound lanes, a Hyundai passenger car driven by a 28-year-old Crosby man "failed to control his speed" and sideswiped a GMC pickup before before hitting the rear of an 18-wheeler stopped in the traffic.
A Chevrolet SUV with emergency lights on, driven by a 65-year-old volunteer fighter from Winnie then struck the wrecked Hyundai which by then had no lights on the release said.
The driver of the Hyundai was taken by ambulance to Riceland Medical Center, in Winnie, with non-life-threatening injuries the release said.
All lanes of the interstate were reopened by 8:30 a.m.
