LAKE CHARLES, La. — On December 25 around 7:30 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D began receiving calls about a vehicle on Interstate 10 being driven erratically and sideswiping a bridge railing according to a release from Louisiana State Police Troop D. Troopers stopped the vehicle in Lake Charles and arrested 34-year-old Sulphur man Daniel Gonzalez, who showed obvious signs of impairment according to the release.
Gonzalez had a 10-year-old child in the vehicle, and was found by troopers to have a blood alcohol content over 3 1/2 times the legal limit according to the release.
Gonzalez was charged with third offense DWI (with child endangerment), improper lane usage, operating a vehicle with a suspended driver’s license and open alcoholic beverage container. He was booked into the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center according to the release.

Callers Help Troopers Locate Drunk Driver with a Child in the Vehicle
LAKE CHARLES – On Tuesday, December 25, 2018, at 7:30 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D began to receive calls from concerned motorists about a vehicle on I-10 that was being driven erratically and that had allegedly sideswiped a bridge railing. Troopers located and stopped the vehicle in Lake Charles. The driver, 34-year-old Hugo Daniel Gonzalez of Sulphur, had a 10-year-old child in the vehicle.
Gonzalez showed obvious signs of impairment, was placed under arrest, and was transported to Troop D for processing. While at Troop D, Gonzales provided a breath sample revealing a blood alcohol content over 3 ½ times the legal limit.
Gonzalez was charged with third offense DWI (with child endangerment), improper lane usage, operating a vehicle with a suspended driver’s license, and open alcoholic beverage container. He was booked into the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center.
The Louisiana State Police is working hard to reduce the number of crashes on our highways but we can’t do it alone. This arrest was made possible because concerned citizens alerted Troopers to the presence of this dangerous driver, possibly preventing a serious crash.
