LUMBERTON, Texas — Multiple first responders helped in the recovery of a vehicle that slid into a lake near Bayou Bridge in Lumberton.
Hardin County officials were dispatched to Cooks Lake Road in reference to a vehicle in water around 9 a.m. Thursday.
Five divers from the Silsbee Fire Department, and Lumberton Fire and EMS officials assisted in the recovery of the vehicle.
Silsbee officials located the vehicle approximately 75-100 feet off the bank, according to Jeffrey McNeel Lumberton Fire EMS Chief.
Officials said the car was near the edge of the bank when it "just rolled" into the lake, according to Chief McNeel.
DPS Sergeant Stephanie Davis confirmed that the momentum of the car caused it to continue rolling even though the driver put the car in park.
The driver was able to escape before the car slid into the water. He was not hurt.
Spanky’s Towing and Recovery pulled the car out of the lake.
Chief McNeel said this is the first recovery of a vehicle in 2020.
