GOFUNDME set up for family of 19-year-old husband, father who died in Friday morning Newton County crash

NEWTON COUNTY, Texas — A fatal wreck early Friday morning is being investigated by the Texas Department of of Public Safety (DPS).

The wreck happened on November 3, 2023 at Highway 87, near County Road 3870, according to a DPS news release.

Around 6:53 a.m., a 2005 Chevrolet Suburban, driven by 19-year-old Cody Mobley of Newton, was traveling south while a 2020 Peterbilt 365, identified as 44-year-old Leroy Bergeron of Orange, was traveling north, according to the release.

Mobley drove into the oncoming lane and struck Bergeron's vehicle head-on. Mobley then drove into the west ditch and overturned, the release states.

Mobley was pronounced dead on the scene by a Justice of the Peace, according to the release. Bergeron was not injured.

UPDATE: The driver of the Chevrolet is identified as 19-year-old Cody Mobley of Newton.  NEWTON COUNTY – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers are investigating a fatal crash on state Highway 87, near County Road 3870, that occurred today, November 3, 2023. The preliminary crash investigation indicates that at approximately 6:53 a.m., a 2005 Chevrolet Suburban was traveling south, while a 2020 Peterbilt 365 was traveling north. It is reported that the driver of the Chevrolet traveled into the oncoming lane and struck the Peterbilt head-on. The Chevrolet then traveled into the west ditch and overturned. The driver of the Chevrolet was pronounced deceased on scene by a Justice of the Peace. Their information is not available pending notification of their next of kin. The driver of the Peterbilt, identified as 44-year-old Leroy Bergeron of Orange, was not injured. This is an ongoing investigation, and no further information is available at this time.
