Dozens of Orange County residents wake up to auto burglary spree

"I was driving in the neighborhood at 4:30 Thursday morning and the door for my wife's SUV was wide open," says Robin Tappe, who lives in the Wexford Park area near Vidor.

A spree of car break-ins happened overnight in Orange County, more than a dozen in 24 hours as of Thursday morning.

"I was driving in the neighborhood at 4:30 Thursday morning and the door for my wife's SUV was wide open," says Robin Tappe, who lives in the Wexford Park area.

Tappe was one of the many people in Orange County hit by a spree of auto burglaries.

"It sounds like they went through every house and checked every vehicle in the neighborhood," he says.

In just 24-hours, over a dozen auto burglaries were reported near Vidor and 6 more in Orangefield. In both towns, 2 vehicles were stolen.

This is all in a days work for the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

"We are processing a vehicle for fingerprints to see if it matches with a possible suspect," says Janois Grizzaffi.

This burglary sting is something Grizzaffi says can be prevented.

"Lock your doors and lock your cars and keep your valuables out of sight," Grizzaffi explains.

This spree is a lesson learned for the Wixford neighborhood.

"Friends had guns, iPads and other valuables stolen from their vehicle that was unlocked," Tappe says.

After this spree, the community is hoping the Sheriff's Office finds the people responsible.

"They have to take their valuables, and lock their vehicles," Grizzaffi explains.
