New downtown Beaumont record store holding grand opening on Small Business Saturday

There will be a food truck and live music from Southeast Texas artists to celebrate the grand opening of For The Record, located on Calder Avenue.

BEAUMONT, Texas — A Beaumont family is busy this Thanksgiving prepping to open the doors of their new business in downtown.

For The Record music venue and records store will host a grand opening this weekend. There will be a food truck and live music from Southeast Texas artists.

Even though the venue isn't ready to open just yet, people will be able to go into the record store at the event.

The music venue will open in a few months, but owner John Trenbeath says hosting a grand opening for the record store is the perfect way to celebrate Small Business Saturday.

"It's exciting and terrifying all at the same time," said Trenbeath.

There's no rest for Trenbeath and his family, even on Thanksgiving.

"Absolutely not! We gotta keep it going!" he said.

Instead of stuffing a turkey, Trenbeath will be spending his time stuffing his record store on Calder Avenue with new stock. This is all for the grand opening happening this Saturday, November 30.

"Everything is a construction zone right now but we'll be ready to go Saturday!" Trenbeath said.

The shelves will be packed with music, shirts and band merch that you can buy.

"Band t-shirts for sale as well as t-shirts that we're selling, tote bags, stuff to clean your records, a nice selection of new and used records here as well. And there'll be snacks and drinks for sale," Trenbeath told 12News.

While the record store will be ready to rock, Trenbeath says the venue will be ready to host Beaumont's best bands in February 2025.

"That's the plan right now. But there's a lot of steps we've got to overcome to get there," said Trenbeath. "There are some things we have to work out with the city. We're installing a sprinkler system that's going to take a lot of time. We've got to rebuild our stage, sound booth, clean up, fix and ceiling tiles, get all of our sound equipment in, but that's gonna come a lot quicker than I think we expect it to, and we're really excited for that part of it."

You won't need to wait until next year to support one of downtown Beaumont's newest businesses.

"In the parking lot, along with the live music on Saturday, we're going to have a food truck from Taquizas el Yiyo off of 11th Street," Trenbeath told 12News.

Trenbeath says small businesses like his are key to growing a greater Beaumont.

"Having a partnership with other small businesses downtown is absolutely crucial for downtown to flourish. Come hang out with us and enjoy some great local music this Saturday!" said Trenbeath.

For those of you going out to support small businesses this Saturday, For The Record's grand opening kicks off at 11 a.m. on November 30 and will go until 4 p.m. Admission is free.
