Donut shop, home destoyed by fire overnight as severe storms pass over Southeast Texas leaving flooding, damage, power outages

More than 40,000 Entergy customers awoke to darkened homes and businesses Friday morning.

BEAUMONT, Texas — Storms passing through Southeast Texas late Thursday night dumped several inches of rain, knocked out power and caused street flooding in parts of Southeast Texas.

9 a.m.: 

Jefferson County Emergency Services District 4 are cleaning up after fighting two adjacent fires early Friday morning that destroyed a donut shop and a home along Highway 124.

Firefighters tell 12News that a downed powerline likely caused the fires.


The Dawn Donut shop at Highway 124 and Smith Road was completely destroyed as well as a home across the street.

There were no injuries reported.

As of 9 a.m. more than 40,000 Entergy customers in Southeast Texas were still without power.

7:55 a.m.: Some trees were also reported to be down including a large tree limb that fell on top of a home in the 600 block of 14th Street in Nederland.

No one was injured when the large limb dropped after midnight Friday morning.

6:15 a.m.: More than 39,000 Entergy customers in Jefferson County  and more than 600 in Hardin County were without power as of 6:14 a.m. Friday according to the Entergy website.

Another 4,391 Entergy customers in Chambers County and 2,378 in Liberty County were also without power early Friday morning.

5:30 a.m.: School districts around Southeast Texas, including Port Arthur, Port Neches-Groves, are announcing closures while others are delaying the start of the school day by an hour or two.
