BEAUMONT, Texas — The wait for a new dog park in Beaumont's west end to be finished is almost over.
The new dog park being built at Rogers Park at Dowlen Rd. and Gladys Ave. should be open by the end of March according to the City of Beaumont.

A $1.4 million budget approved in 2022 to update parks across the city provided the funds to build the new dog park, Ward 2 Councilman Mike Getz previously told 12News.
Plans for the dog park began back in 2019 after a resident, Holli Peterson, collected almost 3,000 signatures for a petition, according to Getz.
"She has a dog so she wanted to have a dog park. As her councilman I felt like with that many people wanted something it's my duty to bring that up to the rest of council," he told 12News last month.
The dog park will be located behind the tennis courts. There will be two separate sections one for big dogs and the other for small dogs.
"This was pretty much an unused area of the park it was just sitting here and now it's going to be utilized," Getz said.
Those looking for a large open area to legally let their dog off the lease to run will be able to make good use of the park.
"It's illegal, in Beaumont, to let your dog run around unrestrained outside your property unless they're on a leash. So you can bring your dog over here and let them run around and interact with other dogs. And people can interact with other people," Getz said.
