BEAUMONT, Texas — Beaumont pet owners may have to wait until late Spring for the new dog park at Rogers Park to officially open.
The city is working to make accommodations at the dog park.
According to a statement released by the City of Beaumont, 'unexpected delays' have impacted the delivery of crucial components required to complete the project, such as the sod.
Project components are expected to be delivered and installed by late Spring.
A new planter, donated by the Magnolia Garden Club is currently being installed at the northeast corner of Rogers Park, according to Beaumont communications director Lauren Monitz.
A $1.4 million budget was approved back in 2022 to update parks across the city.
The new dog park, located behind the tennis courts, was previously scheduled to open at the end of March.
Pet owners of all ages were patiently waiting for the dog park to open.
"Me and my grandma came to see if it was open. But it's not open yet. So we'll be waiting on it," said Jordan Braxton, a young Beaumont resident.
Plans for the dog park began back in 2019 after a resident, Holli Peterson, collected almost 3,000 signatures for a petition, according to Ward 2 Councilman Mike Getz.
