The incident happened around 8:30 a.m. at the Beaumont Clean Ammonia site, which is owned by Woodside Energy and managed by OCI.
Deputies were sent to the site in the 6300 block of Twin City Highway in reference to an injured worker who had fallen while working inside a tank, according to Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Captain Crystal Holmes.
The man was transported to a nearby hospital due to his injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after.
Judge Chesson has ordered an autopsy.
No additional people were injured and all workers have been accounted for.
“This is a very sad day, and I offer my deepest sympathy to our colleague’s family, friends and workmates," said Woodside CEO Meg O’Neill. “The safety of our workforce is always our top priority, and we are providing full support to OCI and its contracting company."
O'Neill says that the company is taking steps to understand the circumstances around the incident.
They are working with authorities, regulators, OCI and the contractor company.
"A full investigation will be initiated and a stand down of all work is currently in place,” said O'Neil.
Senior Woodside management is working to provide support to the employees.
