JASPER, Texas — Up to 150 new jobs could be coming to Jasper County after a manufactured home plant moves into a former plywood mill.

The former Louisiana Pacific plywood mill along Texas Highway 63 just east of U.S. Highway 190 is set to become the home of Houston-based Gated Rentals Home Assembly, LLC, according to Eddie Hopkins, executive director of the Jasper Economic Development Corporation.

"The excitement that it's created around Jasper for new jobs and what this will do to our employment has really got us excited," Hopkins said.

Initially the company plans to hire 50 people and eventually hire another 100 for a total of 150 permanent employees, Hopkins told 12News.

The company will make manufactured homes in the 189,000 square-foot facility that sits on 50 acres, he said.

Negotiations for the lease between the company and the landowner began in 2023.

"Getting something like this back is a shot in the arm."

This is a developing story. We will update with more if and when we receive more confirmed information.
