Golden Triangle Polymers steps in to keep Meals on Wheels going in Orange County

Elderly residents in the county recently went from receiving fresh meals daily to receiving frozen meals twice a week.

ORANGE, Texas — Orange County's Meals on Wheels program, which was on the verge of being cut, is getting a much-needed boost from from a Southeast Texas company.

Elderly residents in the county recently went from receiving fresh meals daily to receiving frozen meals twice a week.

"I think we are out delivering, or have delivered, somewhere in the neighborhood of 1,400 to 1,500 meals and our goal is to reach 2,000 meals today," said Rodney Townsend, a board member for Meals on Wheels Orange.

But now Golden Triangle Polymers is stepping in to try and help with a $15,000 donation.

On Wednesday the company raised money to help keep the program running the roads of Orange County.

A BBQ lunch sale happened on Wednesday, September 18, 20204 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Granger Super Center in Orange at the corner of 16th St and Green Ave.

Meals on Wheels provides meals for 300 senior citizens across Orange County weekly. 

Golden Triangle Polymers plant manager Chad Jennings says the $15,000 donation is just one of many ways they want to continue contributing to Southeast Texas.

"It feels great! we look for opportunities in the community where we can make a difference. We have a certain amount of funds we want to give back to the community. We looked at Meals on Wheels and we knew that they were in need for support at this point in time. We knew this was the right opportunity for us to give and help them make sure that they can continue to supply the food they need," Jennings said.

LBS Barbecue owner Linzi Belcher says they they sold over 1,600 meals today and that every single dollar will make a difference.
