PORT ARTHUR, Texas — The boil water notice has been lifted for residents in Port Arthur after a water main leak caused low water pressure back on Saturday.
A water main leak has caused the water system pressure throughout the entire city to fall below the 20 psi required by the state, according to a release.
To ensure harmful bacteria and microbes are destroyed, consumers should bring their water to a vigorous boil, then allow the water to continue boiling for over two minutes. Allow it to cool before using.
Individuals may also purchase bottled water or obtain water from a different suitable source for drinking or other human consumption purposes.
Children, seniors, and persons with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria, and all customers should follow these directions, according to a release from the city.
Those in affected areas should boil their water for:
- washing hands/face
- brushing teeth
- drinking
- cooking
- ice-making
- other human consumption purposes
Public water system officials will notify customers when the water is safe for drinking or human consumption purposes.
A notice will also be sent to customers once the boil water notice is rescinded.
The city urges residents to share this information with people who drink the water and those who may not receive the boil water notice.

- People living in apartments
- People living in nursing homes
- Schools
- Businesses
- Other individuals who may not receive the notice
Individuals can also share the notice in public areas or by sending copies of the notice by hand or mail.
