BEAUMONT, Texas — Members of the Beaumont Professional Firefighters Union are currently meeting with the City of Beaumont as the two groups work to negotiate a new contract.
On Tuesday both sides met to clarify definitions in a potential new agreement. During Wednesday's meeting, Beaumont City Manager Kenneth Williams said that wages were a significant part of the discussions the two sides had on Tuesday.
Wednesday's meeting is set to continue until 1 p.m.as the remaining articles of the contract are addressed.
If they are unable to reach an agreement Wednesday, they will consider executing a second extension of the current contract. If there is a second extension, it would last through January 8, 2025.
Firefighters are now working under an extension to their current contract which ended on September 30, 2024. They can work under the extension for up to a year.
The two sides began meeting to negotiate a new contract in early October.
This is a developing story. We will update with more if and when we receive more confirmed information.
