BEAUMONT, Texas — The City Council of Beaumont will be cracking down on what they call "bandit signs" in the upcoming weeks after prioritizing beautification and safety in the community as key objectives in the city's strategic plan.
Beaumont will be enforcing advertising and signage codes in an effort to prevent clutter, improve driver visibility, and enhance the aesthetic of the city.
Residents are advised to review and become familiar with the city's codes and ordinances to ensure compliance.
Here's a list information on the city's advertising and signage codes:
- A public right-of-way is the area on, below or above a roadway, highway, street, sidewalk, alley, waterway, or other way and that is open for public use, and that is owned by the city in full or in part, and that is managed and controlled by the city.
- No sign shall be attached or applied to trees, utility poles, or trash receptacles or located within any public right-of-way, per Section 28.04.003(f).
- Signs affixed to vehicles, trailers or storage containers not used in the normal conduct of business, per Section 28.04.003(f).
- No sign shall be placed on any property in such a manner as to obstruct the view from the left or right of a vehicle from other traffic on the public right-of-way when lawfully entering the roadway. The city transportation manager shall have the right to order the removal of such signs by the property owner or by city crews, subject to a 10-day appeal by the owner to the board of adjustment, prior to removal, per Section 28.04.003(f).
If you're with a contracting company and would like to place a sign, you must receive the property owner's permission and if applicable, get a city permit in order to place a sign on private property.
Beaumont requires all signs to be setback not closer than ten feet from any property line on private property with owner consent.
