'We are covering all our bases'| City Ambulance adjusts as sole emergency provider for Port Arthur

Acadian Ambulance cut ties with the city in February after deciding that two ambulance services were not viable

PORT ARTHUR, Texas — City Ambulance has been the sole emergency provider for the City of Port Arthur after Acadian Ambulance ended their contract.

"Back in October when we were the sole provider after Acadian pulled out we a month to test it out. So we knew we were able to cover the entire city," said City Ambulance director of operations Bryan Jordan.

Acadian cut ties with the city back in February after deciding that two ambulance services were not viable.

In response, City Ambulance has increased their number of ambulances on the road to help with response times.

"We currently have 10, so we brought in two more so we are having to split between the 9-1-1 and the inter-facilities here which is a lot tougher to navigate," said Jordan.

12News reporter Gloria Walker had the chance for a ride along with City Ambulance to experience first-hand how medics respond to emergency calls.

According to Jordan, they have enough support to help with staffing numbers.

"Our recruiting program is very good for finding people for the program us," he said. "If we do run into any issues we have enough backing and support to staff us overall."

As City Ambulance approaches their first year on the job, they're making sure to have an effective plan as they prepare for hurricane season.

"We do have hurricane season coming up so we are talking with the fire department since this is our first year being a sole provider," said Jordan. "So we are covering all our bases pre-emptive wise or any strategies that we can go over or discuss."

According to Jordan, Port Arthur leaders have been supportive as they adjust to being the city's sole provider. They hope to continue servicing the city for many years to come.
