BEAUMONT, Texas — Christus Health is taking over the former home of the Southeast Texas Medical Center on Beaumont's west end to open a new healthcare facility.
The new hospital facility, which Christus says will be open in the "coming months," will have an emergency room and surgical space as well as medical offices, according to a news release from Christus Health.
The healthcare provider says the nearly 6-acre campus will expand its existing healthcare and emergency care.
“As health care needs grow in Southeast Texas and beyond, we continue to expand our services to ensure that area residents have access to the innovative, faith-based care they have come to expect and deserve,” said Ernie Sadau, president and chief executive officer of CHRISTUS Health was quoted in the news release as saying. “We know consumers have choices as to where they seek care, and finding care close to home is ideal.”
The former Medical Center of Southeast Texas' Beaumont campus closed in February 2024 due to a lack of use according to Steward Health Care.
The old hospital originally opened in 2013 as Victory Medical Center Beaumont but was taken over by The Medical Center of Southeast Texas in October 2015 according to file stories.
"It's always a concern whenever we lose any medical facilities and I haven't noticed that there's been a lot of traffic too it," Jefferson County Judge Jeff Branick said in February when the old facility closed.
This is a developing story. We will update with more if and when we receive more confirmed information.
