Construction of Christ Central Camp in Beaumont running ahead of schedule, hoping to open July 2023

The camp will include a chapel, multipurpose building, cabins, pavilion, walking trails, swimming pool and lake!

BEAUMONT, Texas — Progress is being made at the Catholic Diocese of Beaumont's new Christ Central Camp.

In October 2022, ground was broken on the camp. Now, construction crews say they are ahead of schedule.

"It's going really well. It's gone really fast, and it's been really awesome to see it all get put together and, you know, if all goes well, we expect to be done at the end of May," said Assistant Project Manager Michael Duplissey.

The purpose of Christ Central Camp is to serve as a foundation for the young people of the Diocese of Beaumont to gather.

The youth center is being built near Holy Family Retreat Center in north Beaumont.

On the 62-acre property, five boys' dormitories have already been built meanwhile the girls' dorms are still under construction.

The chapel, which overlooks a giant cross and a lake with a beach, is almost finished. The lake will be used for fishing and kayaking.

The basketball courts and soccer fields are still being built.

"It's very exciting to see what is happening for the young people of our churches here in Southeast Texas," said Bishop David Toups with the Diocese of Beaumont.

Bishop Toups says while the camp will be ready in May, campers will not arrive until July.

The bishop also wants parents to know, all faiths are welcome.

"Our brothers and sisters of the various denominations if they wanted to come out here. With their young people and do a retreat or have an afternoon of reflection. We certainly want to make sure that it's open to our whole community to serve the common good," Toups said.
