'This was God's saving grace' | Car crashes into Beaumont hospice care office on Thursday afternoon

Employees were having a normal workday at HCT Hospice Care located off of Eastex Freeway at the Delaware exit, when witnesses say a car crashed into the office.

BEAUMONT, Texas — Employees at a Beaumont business had a chaotic afternoon when a car plowed into their building on Thursday.

Employees were having a normal workday at HCT Hospice Care located off of Eastex Freeway at the Delaware exit, when witnesses say a car was rear ended, sending it off the highway and into one of the building's offices.

The HCT Hospice Care team is a nonprofit that cares for everyone from newborns to elderly patients.

Thursday's crash left a lot of damage inside one of the volunteer's office.

"It sounded like a big bang! We went and looked and a car was definitely in the building!" said Felicity McCarvy, an office coordinator at HCT.

"It was...one for the books," said office manager Kristen Melvin.

The silver car ended up nurse Cindy Adcock's office.

"My coworker Cindy [Adcock] was right there when the car hit," McCarvy said.

Luckily, Adcock was in her McCarvy's office on the other side of the wall.

"We were talking about a phone call she just had," said McCarvy.

Adcock left her office less than a minute before the crash.

"A table came out of her office," McCarvy recalled.

The table left a giant hole in the side of the building.

"As I was pulling in right here, all the workers pointed at the car," said Christopher Figueroa, a construction worker.

Figueroa and the rest of his crew were just feet away from the crash. They quickly jumped into action to save everyone in the car.

"We decided to get a 'saw-saw' and then we just busted open the window. We started to remove debris from the car to see if they could get out. We asked them if they could move and they said 'yes', Figueroa said.

He and his crew were quickly relieved by Beaumont Police and Beaumont Fire.

"It's definitely a surreal experience, you know?" Figueroa said.

"They're just a little bit shook up. But all of our staff is great," said Tammy Mooney, the director of nursing at HCT.

The employees at HCT are shaken, but thankfully safe. Mooney and the rest of the HCT volunteers see today's outcome as nothing short of a miracle.

"We're just very grateful for all of our neighbors around here, and for the construction workers that were outside," Mooney  said.

"This was God's saving grace, right here!" said McCarvy.

HCT Beaumont owner Dr. Joe Chapman says half of the building is out of power, so they've moved the volunteers to the other side of the building.

They will be back to business as usual on Friday, November 15.
