Officials searching for gunman after shooting at Louis Manor Apartments prompts lockdown at nearby school

Port Arthur Police are currently looking for a suspect in the shooting. Chief Tim Duriso says the motive is unknown, but it was not a "random" shooting.

PORT ARTHUR, Texas — Booker T. Washington Elementary School in Port Arthur was put on a brief "secure in place" order Wednesday afternoon after a shooting at Louis Manor Apartments nearby.

The lockdown was put in place as per the Port Arthur Independent School District police chief. 

Port Arthur Police Chief Tim Duriso tells 12News officers were working a shooting at Louis Manor Apartments, located at 1300 Joe Louis Avenue nearby the elementary school. 

All staff and students were safe while officers were investigating the scene at the apartment complex.

There was a controlled dismissal at the school when the lockdown was lifted, which lasted from 3:25 to 3:45 p.m. 

Port Arthur Police are currently looking for a suspect in the shooting.

Duriso says the motive is unknown but it was not a "random" shooting.

The male victim was a Port Arthur resident and was taken to the hospital. The status of his injuries are unknown at this time. 

Officials ask that witnesses or anyone with surveillance video come forward with any information regarding this shooting.
