BON WIER — Homeowners in Newton and Jasper County are dealing with rising waters as the Sabine River Authority releases water from the Toledo Bend Reservoir.
Jim Dubose has lived in the city of Bon Wier for nearly 40 years and has flooded eight times.
He originally moved to the area for quiet and easy living but that hasn't been the case.
His home off Sands Road is currently unreachable because of the rising waters.
"There used to be 75 to 80 houses, " Dubose said. "I run a little water company over here and I lost a lot of customers after the 2016 flood."
Dubose says that there are only 25 homes left around him but he made plans in case this kept occuring.
He bought land on higher ground and was able to move many of his belongings onto the property ahead of the rising river.
"You get to the age where you can't do that any more and it's not going to get any better I don't guess, " Dubose said. "With the flooding like it happens it's more regular now than ever. I don't know."
