JASPER, Texas — A body found near the Jasper Walmart Thursday night has been identified.
On Thursday, February 1 around 3 p.m. officers responded to a call about an unresponsive person in the 800 block of West Gibson Street in the wooded area between Walmart and Lee Nails, according to a Jasper Police Department news release.
When officers arrived they found a man slumped over sitting with his legs crossed, according to the release.
The man has been identified as 49-year-old Jeremiah Brent Benoi of Temple.
Police found equipment in the area that led them to believe he died due to possible overdose by chemical means, the release said.
An autopsy has been ordered.
